The Benefits of Wearing Contact Lenses

Contact lenses provide a natural field of vision, allowing wearers to see without the frame edges or lens reflections that can occur with spectacles. Because they sit directly on the eye’s surface, they move with your gaze—offering uninterrupted visual clarity.

They are particularly useful for individuals with active lifestyles, as they remain stable during sports, exercise, and physical work. Additionally, contact lenses provide the option to go frame-free for special occasions or personal preference, allowing for greater flexibility in appearance and function.

Many wearers find contact lenses to be more comfortable than expected. With advances in breathable, moisture-retaining materials, today’s lenses offer long-lasting hydration and minimal awareness during wear.

Who Can Wear Contact Lenses?

Most people who require vision correction are suitable candidates for contact lenses, including those with myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, or presbyopia. Modern lens technology makes it possible to fit a wide variety of prescriptions and eye shapes.

At Optic Edge, we conduct a full assessment of your eye health, tear film, corneal shape, and prescription to determine your eligibility. If you’ve previously been told contact lenses aren’t suitable, we may be able to offer new options that weren’t available before.

Our team also provides training and support for first-time users, ensuring you feel confident with insertion, removal, cleaning, and safe storage.

Daily vs Monthly Contact Lenses: Which Is Right for You?

Optic Edge offers both daily disposable and monthly reusable contact lenses, and the right choice depends on your lifestyle, prescription, and personal preference.

Daily contact lenses are convenient and hygienic—ideal for patients who want low-maintenance wear or only use lenses occasionally. Each pair is used once and discarded, eliminating the need for cleaning and reducing the risk of irritation.

Monthly contact lenses offer excellent value for regular wearers. They require cleaning and storage each night, but are built for durability and long-term comfort. They can also accommodate more complex prescriptions or specialised needs.

Our optometrists will recommend the best contact lenses based on your eye health and visual goals.

Contact Lenses for Astigmatism

Patients with astigmatism require a different type of vision correction due to the irregular shape of the cornea. At Optic Edge, we provide toric contact lenses designed specifically to correct astigmatic prescriptions while maintaining stable vision throughout the day.

These lenses are carefully fitted to ensure proper orientation and comfort. They are available in both daily and monthly versions, depending on your preference and visual requirements.

With the right fitting and material choice, contact lenses for astigmatism offer sharp vision without the need for bulky or uncomfortable frames.

Prescription Glasses for Face Shape

Multifocal Contact Lenses for Ageing Eyes

As we age, many people experience presbyopia—a condition that makes it harder to focus on near objects. Instead of relying on reading glasses, multifocal contact lenses offer a convenient solution for clear vision at all distances.

Optic Edge offers a range of multifocal lens designs that allow for seamless transitions between near, intermediate, and far vision. These lenses are particularly useful for professionals, readers, and anyone who values visual independence.

Our optometrists will help you trial the most suitable design, ensuring that your contact lenses support your lifestyle without visual compromise.

Coloured and Cosmetic Contact Lenses

Contact lenses aren’t just about vision correction—they can also enhance or transform your natural eye colour. At Optic Edge, we offer coloured lenses that are available with or without a prescription. These lenses allow you to experiment with subtle enhancements or dramatic changes in appearance while maintaining comfort and clarity.

All coloured contact lenses are professionally fitted and sourced from reputable manufacturers to ensure eye health and safety. They are ideal for special occasions, cosmetic use, or everyday style.

We also advise patients on proper hygiene and usage habits to avoid potential irritation or infection.

Contact Lenses for Dry or Sensitive Eyes

Many patients believe that dry or sensitive eyes make contact lenses impossible to wear. However, modern lens materials offer better moisture retention, oxygen permeability, and all-day comfort—even for those prone to discomfort.

Optic Edge specialises in fitting breathable silicone hydrogel lenses and other advanced designs that reduce friction and support tear film stability. For sensitive patients, we also offer lubricating drops and lens care systems designed to maintain long-lasting hydration.

A detailed examination helps us recommend the best contact lenses for your specific needs, minimising symptoms and enhancing comfort.

Paediatric Contact Lenses at Optic Edge

In certain cases, children and teens may benefit from contact lenses—particularly for sports, self-esteem, or vision correction of high prescriptions. Our optometrists assess the maturity and responsibility of each young patient before making a recommendation.

We provide full instruction on lens hygiene, safe handling, and parental support. Our goal is to ensure that children using contact lenses develop healthy, safe habits from the beginning.

Children often adapt quickly to lenses and enjoy the improved freedom from frames. With proper care, contact lenses are a practical and positive option for many younger patients.

Safe Use and Hygiene for Contact Lenses

Proper care is essential for safe, comfortable use of contact lenses. At Optic Edge, we provide each patient with clear, step-by-step instructions on cleaning, handling, and storing their lenses. We also advise on wearing times, replacement schedules, and how to manage lenses during illness or travel.

We emphasise the importance of avoiding overwear, never sleeping in lenses unless prescribed, and not using expired or damaged products. These habits help prevent infections, dryness, and other complications.

Follow-up appointments allow us to monitor eye health and ensure your contact lenses continue to perform well over time.

How Often Should You Review Your Contact Lenses?

Regular review appointments are key to maintaining both vision and comfort. Even if your prescription stays stable, changes in your tear film, eye shape, or lifestyle may require a different type of lens.

We recommend reviewing your contact lenses annually, or sooner if you notice issues. Our optometrists will recheck your fit, vision, and eye health to ensure you’re still using the most suitable product for your needs.

With regular care, contact lenses can provide a consistent, high-quality visual experience year after year.
